Step 6 - Update the BLE Firmware of the Abeeway Geolocation Module

In this step, you will flash (upload) the sample cli-demo firmware to test the functionality of the EVB.

Check to see that you have not moved away from the FUS interface. If you move away from the FUS interface, you will need to select the FUS button.

Browse for the file path that is pointing to the file that was downloaded in Step 2.
File Path: path of the stm32wb5x_BLE_Stack_full_fw.bin* (including file name)
Start Address: 0x080C7000
Select the First Install checkbox if this is the first time you are installing the stack.
To begin the installation of the Bluetooth BLE Stack, select the option labeled Firmware Install.

You are informed by the prompt that the implementation of the BLE Stack is complete. To finish the installation, click the OK button.

You successfully installed the BLE software by doing this, which is essential for the example application to function in the intended environment.

*Exact path of the Bluetooth BLE Stack file on the package:

STM32Cube_FW_WB_V1.15.0\Projects\STM32WB_Copro_Wireless_Binaries\STM32WB5x\stm32wb5x_BLE_Stack_full_fw.bin

Step 7 - Upload Sample EVB Firmware to Abeeway Geolocation Module - 2

In this step, you will flash (upload) the sample cli-demo firmware to test the functionality of the EVB.

Switch to the Erase & Programming screen by clicking the Erasing & Programming icon.

File Path: Use the sample binary file that was downloaded in Step 3. The name of the file is aos-app-demo.elf* (the path should include the file name).
Start Address: 0x08000000 Select the Verify programming and Run after programming check boxes.
Simply start flashing the MCU by clicking the Start Programming button.

You will see multiple success messages, as shown in the figure.
You are informed via the pop-up window that the example CLI application has successfully been installed. To finish the procedure, click the OK button.

As a result of this activity, you just uploaded the sample CLI application to test the functionality of EVB.

apps\abeeway\app-abw-demo\Release\aos-app-demo.elf

Step 8 - Install Tera Term Terminal Emulator

In this step, you will install the Tera Term application on your machine. This application will be used to access EVB via CLI to use the sample application.

You can access the Tera Term product web page here, then click the Download link.

You can also access the download website from this link. In order for Tera Term to be installed on your computer, you will need to choose the executable file (teraterm-4.106.exe).

You will notice that the download of the exe file will start automatically.

Please click on the exe files in order to start the installation.

Please select I accept the agreement and then click the Next button.

After making your selections, click the Next button to move on to the installation process. By the way, use of the default selections is sufficient.

After making your choice, please proceed by clicking the Next button.

Please review the tasks and then select the Next button. For this exercise, using the default selection will be sufficient

Please review the installation setup and click the Install button to start installation.

As a result of this step, you just installed a terminal emulator application (Tera Term) which is necessary to access EVB via CLI (Command Line Interface) using the USB/Serial port. Alternatively, you can select the zip version of the product in order to use the product without installing it on your machine.

Step 9 - Set and display LoRaWAN® parameters of EVB

In this step, you will:

Set the LoRaWAN® JoinEUI, AppKey and NwkKey parameters of on EVB
View the DevEUI

Please note that it is assumed that you already have an account at TPC (ThingPark Community).

Now you have to connect to EVB using the Tera Term application using the serial connection, and then you have to set the serial connection parameter.

Please select the icon Tera Term under the Tera Term group to start Tera Term application.

Please connect to EVB using Tera Term. For this, select the Serial connection and STMicroelectronics STLink Virtual Port as Port.

In order to set Serial port parameters, click to Serial Port under the Setup menu.

Please fill the menu with the following parameters:
57600 for Speed
7 bit for Data
none for Parity
1 bit for Stop bits
none for Flow control
Then click the New settings button to save the settings

Now that you are connected to EVB, please press Enter to get a login: prompt from EVB.

Please enter 456 as your login parameter in order to access superuser privileges.

Please enter the following commands to setup the LoRaWAN® settings of the EVB, as shown in the figure..

settings set appkey 20635f01f000976220635f000000000F

settings set nwkkey 20635f01f000976220635f000000000F

Please notice that joineui, appkey & nwkkey are the values that you can randomly select and these values above given as example only. Rules for these numbers:

– joineui should be 8 digits hexadecimal

– appkey & nwkkey should be 16 digits hexadecimal

– appkey and nwkkey should be the same

Please enter the settings display to view the settings. Please notice that the DevEUI of the device shown is 20635f01f0009797. You’re going to use DevEUI in Step 10.

Finally, enter the settings save command to make values persist after an EVB reset.

As a summary, you just set the values for JoinEUI, AppKey, NwkKey and view DevEUI of the EVB. These values will be used in the definitions of TPC in Step 10.
